Open Auto Transport

Open transport is the standard way vehicles move in the United States. Your car travels on a multi-level carrier alongside several others, exposed to the weather the same way it would be if you drove it yourself.

How open transport works

An open carrier is the familiar multi-car hauler you see on the interstate. Vehicles are loaded onto upper and lower decks, secured with wheel straps or chains, and inspected with you at pickup and again at delivery.

Because a single truck carries multiple vehicles, the cost of the trip is shared and open transport is the most economical option for the great majority of shipments.

  • Most available equipment, so pickup windows are usually the most flexible
  • Vehicles are secured individually and inspected at both ends
  • Same weather exposure a vehicle would see being driven

What to expect on the road

Road dust, rain and — on northern routes in winter — salt spray are normal on open transport. None of it is unusual or damaging to a typical vehicle, but it is the reason some customers on Midwest and Northeast lanes choose enclosed instead.

Ground clearance matters. A lowered or very low-clearance vehicle may not load safely on standard ramps; tell us before booking so we assign appropriate equipment.

When open transport is the right choice

For daily drivers, family vehicles, trucks, SUVs and most late-model cars, open transport does the job at the best price. It is what most Bonita Springs seasonal residents use twice a year.
